Optimizing your web content!

Content is king. This is a phrase you will probably hear very often as you learn more about SEO. It is also one of the most important factors to remember as you're creating a site that is optimized for search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing.

Search Engines always reward good content. Here is a checklist of things you need for good content:

  • Keyword: Go to https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal and enter your primary keywords. You will then get a list of both long tailed and short keywords that are related to your primary keyword. Pick keywords that have high searches.
  • Content creation: Incorporate the keywords into your content as you write it.
  • Keyword density: Once you have written your article, revisit it to make sure that your keyword density is between 3-5%.
  • Tags: Add keywords to your Meta Tags, Description Tags, Alt Tags, and Title Tags
  • Header: Create a header for your article. This header should incorporate a keyword and be set as an H1 tag.
  • Sub-headers: If your article has sub-headers, save them as an H2 tag.
  • Bold: Make primary keywords within your content bold.
  • Unique: While you may look at content from other sites before creating your content, don't copy it. Your content should be unique. If you plagiarize even a part of it, then your website rankings will suffer.
  • Value: This should be obvious but people often ignore it. Your content has to provide value. If you're just going to repackage what others say, then you aren't really providing any value to anyone. You won't get many repeat visitors if you do this.
  • Frequency: This is another commonly ignored tip. Often people create a site and post one or two articles in it. Then, they ignore it and hope for the best. If you do the same, no one will be interested in visiting your website. You should aim to add at least one new article to your site every week.

Nice tips, but keep in mind users don't like too much bold :). I say content is far more important than search engine favoring!

I agree about the bold text. However, too much of anything is bad. When arranging content, one has to use common sense.
